Well once again, the fan balloting and the rule that every team must be represented has lessened the 'All-Star' part of the All-Star game. In a day when the NHL needs all of the exposure it can get, they once again have looked the other way and taken the wrong route. Including the decision to have Versus carry the games, the fact that the seasons schedule does not allow some of the elite players in the league to make the rounds to every city on a yearly basis, and now the selection of the players that should showcase it's best talent will instead have a collection of popular players starting followed by a few that don't belong on the bench. This is just three examples of how the league loses sight and you know as well as I do, the list goes on and on...Check out Boycott The NHL All-Star Game.
When Will Wild Management Make Change?
Coming off another loss in which the game could have been had, the Wild continue to show that they simply cannot score goals. A big blow was dealt last week when it was learned that it's bread & butter scorer would most likely be lost forever. But lets face it, we all knew that the chances of Gabby being here for the entire season were slim but the thought was that at least we would get something in return. Well clearly that is probably not going to happen. And besides, this scoring problem has been here for longer than this season. Prior to last seasons trade deadline, the biggest issue for this team was up the middle at Center. The sudden retirement of Wes Walz left a big hole to fill and all thoughts were that the time was ripe to finally go after a proven center who would post some points. Well apparently Risebrough and his staff had other thoughts because it never materialized. So here we sit again with the same issue. This team has always finished in the bottom half of the league in scoring and is currently sitting at #29 with only 2.37 goals per game. The time has come and gone for Minnesota to make some decent meaningful moves, as the 'plan' that is currently in play is not working.
