Reliable as ever

There are a few things that happen throughout the year that you can always count on. The late season months always bring the cold weather, Santa Claus always comes for Christmas, and the winter tournaments always bring a snow storm. Yes, it's that time of year again, and the reliability of a snow storm hitting during a Minnesota State High School League winter tournament is almost as reliable as the sun rising every morning. If I were a GM of any kind of broadcast station, there is no doubt that I would mandate that the meteorologist use their vacation time during this time of the year because there is no need to staff one...we know there is going to be a snow storm.

Girls hockey and gymnastics have kicked things off for the first of the major MSHSL tournaments. After the champions are crowned this weekend, the wrestlers take over the Xcel Energy Center followed by the boys hockey tournament teams. Finally, the basketball tournaments, boys & girls, wrap things up over at the Target Center. You wonder why the Minnesota Wild have such a brutal schedule this month...partly because of the high school tournaments.

I am personally glad that the storm is now out of the way. There is nothing worse than having to wait and wonder what weekend event it will eventually hit. At least we know that, from here on out, we can all make it to the X, or the other place over in Minneapolis, without having to worry about the big tournament storm.
