Sticks + Pucks...(Odds & Ends)

If you have not figured my style out yet, I'm really not an 'every game preview-review' guy...I tried that for a couple of season and it was just too exhausting a hobby...now if I were getting paid, that would be another matter. However, if I don't have anything creative to write, I may slip in a comment or two about a particular game, which is now...

Wild 3 Oilers 2 SO

The home team played much better yesterday afternoon than they did in their 2-0 shutout loss to the Predators. However, even though they earned the much needed 2 points against the Oilers (3-2 so), they still left something to be desired, as they could not finish off a tired Edmonton team in regulation, who were dismantled by the Red Wings 8-3 the previous night. And the weird stat of the season so far is the Wild's record against teams who are playing in the second of back-to-back games...something like 5-7-0.

Mikko's Shiner

What did I miss with Koivu...he was sporting a pretty good shiner under his visor. I truly do not remember seeing, reading, or hearing about what happened...so if someone could kindly enlighten me as to the cause, I would greatly appreciate it. I do have one theory as to what might have happened, but the more I thought about it, there is no way. I will say this about my theory though...our current captain does not have nearly enough speed to get away fast enough from Mikko if what I was thinking of actually happened.

Trade Thought

I'm going to throw this out there...but if the Wild are thinking about unloading Backstrom, one possible netminder that the team could acquire for peanuts is Manny Legace, who was recently waived by the Blues. While his numbers are not near his potential for this season, keep in mind that Legace is only one season removed from being an All-Star. A package of Backstrom and a defenseman could bring in that top-shelf center that we have been waiting for. As has been the case over the life of the Wild...you never know what you're going to get come trade deadline time...
