This month has been a complete disaster as the team has gone 3-7-1 so far. And not only is the local weather been in a deep freeze, so has the Wild goal output. Yes, once again our favorite team has been hitting the low end of the league when it comes to goal scoring. Sitting firmly 23 out of 30, the Wild average only 2.55 goals per game and are over a full goal per game behind the league leading Bruins. Now taking a look at our lineup, it may not be too hard to figure out why. By all accounts, this team has 3 legitimate top line players in Koivu, Gaborik, and Brunette. But once you get passed these three, the drop-off is big. Bouchard is a player that could be in the above group but has really struggled this season with the off-season loss of his scoring partner in Rolston. But looking passed Butch, this team is really stocked in 3rd and 4th line players, but is missing the top skaters that could fit into the top line and fill a second line. And I have not even scratched the Gaborik issue...
He needs to be moved and all indications are that a move is could be coming very soon. After having a nice 4 day holiday break, the teams plays back-to-to back games starting Sunday against Chicago followed by a match-up against Calgary. And following the teams latest game, which was a 3-2 victory over Carolina last Tuesday, it was announced that Gaborik will not play in either of the next two games. Keep in mind that this announcement was made before the 4 days of rest and after a victory. This is pretty strange of the team to come out with this...and I firmly believe that Gaborik has worn a Wild sweater for the last time. Rumors flying around have Gaborik and Johnsson going to the Thrashers for Kovalchuk and Armstrong. Make the deal if it available Mr. Risebrough, please. The last thing this team needs is a thorn in the teams side, as will be the case the longer Gabby is allowed to suite-up. And then after making this deal, make another because this move still will not solve the problem that this team lacks a legitimate second unit.
